L Street Brownies Readying For Annual New Year's Day Swim

BOSTON (AP) — Hundreds of swimmers are expected to plunge into Boston Harbor for the L Street Brownies' annual New Year's Day Swim.

The swim is one of the oldest traditions in Boston, taking place each year on Jan. 1 for over a century. The Brownies are the oldest "polar bear" swimming club in the country.

The event is hosted by the Boston Centers for Youth & Families Curley Community Center in South Boston.

Both swimmers and spectators are invited. Creative costumes are encouraged. About 600 people are expected to participate.
