Lynn 'Grinch' Returns Stolen Christmas Lights

LYNN (CBS) – A man who stole Christmas lights from a Lynn home returned the decorations, saying he was drinking before the prank.

"The Christmas lights have been returned by the Grinch," Lynn Police Lt. Richard Donnolly told WBZ NewsRadio 1030.

A homeowner caught a man on surveillance video stealing her Christmas lights, and on Tuesday police asked the public to help identify the suspect.

Late Tuesday night, Donnolly said the man saw himself on the news and came to the Lynn Police Department with the lights.

"He turned everything in. He saw himself on the news, said he felt really bad," Donnolly said, adding that the man did not know the homeowner whose lights he took. "He apologized to the officers and told them he had been partying, drinking and it was more of a prank more than anything else."

The man has no criminal record. Donnolly said that after speaking with the homeowner, police opted not to charge the man.

Donnolly said the response to their Facebook post about the incident was massive.

"This is a first. I wish we would get these types of responses all the time when we ask for help on social media. We got a lot of responses on this particular incident with the Grinch," said Donnolly.
