Project Hope's Annual Toy Drive In Full Swing

BOSTON (CBS) -- Volunteers from several companies are helping gather toys for an annual toy drive put on by Project Hope, a Boston-based agency dedicated to helping low-income families.

About 40 to 50 companies, individuals, churches, and organizations are holding drives to collect toys, books, clothing, and warm items for the children involved in the project.

"It's all about empowering the women to be able to provide for their own children," said Project Hope's Robyn Eastwood. "And that goes along with all our programs of helping families move out of poverty, this is a piece of it."

Gifts were dropped off over the last week at Project Hope's Community Building in Roxbury. They were left unwrapped, so that the parents could wrap the gifts themselves.

Roxbury resident Joyce Thompson said the drive helps provide toys for her grandchildren.

"It means so much to us," said Thompson. "We truly, greatly appreciate the service that we're getting from those who have donated to parents and mothers like us."
