Jay Talking: 'Walk With Me Over The Danube.'

While Budapest is a rewarding destination on a number of levels, one of the big draws for me is the Liberty Bridge. Spanning the Danube, it connects Buda and Pest. On the Pest side of the Bridge is the Central Market, images of which opened this video, and the other end of the bridge opens at Gellert Hill, home to the famed Gellert Hotel and Gellert Spa. It was built between 1894 and 1896. At the end of World War II the retreating Germans blew it up, as they did all the bridges in Budapest, and this one was the first to be repaired. It re-opened in 1946. The way the bridge it is lit at night, including light from the old school street light, creates the kind of old world magic that is getting more and more difficult to find. For me, it's a must-see feature in a must-visit town.
