Car Crashes Into North Reading House, Driver Killed

NORTH READING (CBS) – A driver died early Friday morning when her car crashed into a North Reading house.

The car, a Honda sedan, crashed into a home on Elm Street near Judith Drive around 6 a.m., causing significant damage.

Police said the driver, a 39-year-old Wilmington woman, was declared dead at the scene. The woman, who was the sole occupant of the car, has not yet been identified.

The investigation has so far found that the driver crossed the double yellow line, veered off the road, and then struck a curb and tree before hitting the house. There was heavy fog in the area Friday morning, and police are investigating whether it played a role in the crash.

The incident is being investigated as an unattended death.

"This is a very sad situation where a life was lost suddenly and unexpectedly," North Reading Police Chief Michael Murphy said. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the victim's family during this difficult time."

As a result of the crash, Route 62 was closed between Middleton Town Line and Mid Iron Drive from about 6 a.m. to 9 a.m.

Three people were inside the home, but not hurt. The North Reading Building Inspector was present to decide if the home was safe to reenter.
