Swampscott High School principal Edward Rozmiarek was placed on administrative leave until further notice on Monday, the district said in a letter to parents.

"At this point in time, I am unable to discuss this pending personnel matter," Superintendent of Schools Pamela Angelakis wrote.

Assistant Principal Frank Kowalski will fill in for Rozmiarek in his absence.

Beverly police confirmed to WBZ one of their detectives assisted Massachusetts State Police on a visit to Rozmiarek's home early on Monday morning.

The reason for the law enforcement presence remains unclear.

The incident was described as an "investigation" in the Beverly police log, but no report was filed.

A spokesman for Massachusetts State Police said he could not confirm or deny an investigation. A spokeswoman for the Essex County District Attorney gave a similar response.
