Lawyers Seek Delay In Aaron Hernandez Double Murder Trial

BOSTON (AP) — Prosecutors and lawyers for former Patriots player Aaron Hernandez have asked to postpone his trial in the 2012 killings of two Boston men.

Hernandez is accusing of gunning down Daniel de Abreu and Safiro Furtado after a chance encounter at a Boston nightclub. He has pleaded not guilty.

Jury selection had been scheduled to begin on Jan. 19.

Late last week, both sides filed a joint motion to delay the start of the trial, citing a pending appeal over evidence in the case.

They did not ask for a specific new date.

Hernandez is already serving a life sentence after being convicted this year in the 2013 killing of Odin Lloyd, who was dating the sister of Hernandez's fiancée.
