3 In Custody After Fatal South Boston Shooting

BOSTON (CBS) – Boston police have placed three people in custody after a man was shot dead in South Boston Saturday night.

Officers responded to the scene at 425 Old Colony Ave. at 10:30 p.m., where the 38-year-old man was found suffering from gunshot wounds. He was later pronounced dead at a local hospital, and his identity has not yet been released.

Boston police said a vehicle was seen speeding away from the scene and the people inside were apparently changing their clothes. The vehicle was later found and police took three men into custody in connection with the shooting after recovering a gun.

"(It was) a quick response and great work by the officers," Evans said. "They (had) seen the vehicle, they stopped it, and luckily they were able to get them with the gun we believe was used in that homicide."

Police Commissioner William Evans says the shooting is troubling and a senseless act. He said the suspects and the victim are known to police.

The suspects face charges of assault with intent to murder, but Evans says the charges will likely be upgraded to murder.
