Man Charged With Misleading Police About Burned Bridgewater Body

BOSTON (CBS) – A third person has been charged with misleading police about the murder of a woman who was found burned in Bridgewater, though the murder suspect remains at large.

Ovi Cruz, 30, of Randolph was arrested Friday night and charged with misleading a police investigation in connection with the murder of 29-year-old New Jersey resident Ashley Bortner, who was found murdered and burned in Bridgewater on November 3.

Julian Squires and Shannon Squires of New Hampshire have previously been charged with misleading investigators and accessory after the fact of murder.

Police have obtained a warrant for Fernando Owens of Dorchester, who they say killed Bortner. Owens remains at large.

Investigators said Saturday that they interviewed Cruz during the investigation. Cruz said he did not know Owens well, but had spoken to him once.

Cell phone records showed that Cruz called Owens multiple times on November 3 and 4, the day that the body was found.

Cruz was held on $5,040 bail and is scheduled to be arraigned Monday in Brockton District Court.
