Keller @ Large: Bring On The Snowless Winter

BOSTON (CBS) - It's been a long week full of depressing news, so let's end it on a more positive note.

A few weeks ago in this space I made clear my hope that we get zero snow here in Greater Boston after last winter, about which the less said, the better. Plenty of snow in the mountains for the skiers, and cold-enough temperatures to make the sweater retailers and outdoor ice-skaters happy, but no snow here in town.

I hoped for it, but I never thought it was possible.

But now I see where forecasters, in line with the speculation of our own ace meteorologists here at WBZ, are saying the mild weather we've been enjoying all fall could well continue deep into the winter season.

The El Niño system is expected to hold off that hideous polar vortex that kept us in the deep freeze last winter, and while they're not entirely sure, there's evidence it could keep the mild weather going right through until spring.

Just imagine – no iceberg-sized snowbanks to navigate everywhere you go.

Plenty of bare sidewalk to stand on when we cheer on the Patriots' Super Bowl victory parade. No ice dams. No sore backs and shoulders from hours of you-know-what.

Consider the economic boost from having actual parking spaces available when you go out shopping. The clubs and theaters won't have to worry that they won't survive another Snowpocalypse.

Bars and restaurants will appreciate having Valentine's Day back.

And the fact is, we need a break. We deserve it.

Bring on the snowless winter.

Think of it as a makeup call for putting us through Deflategate.
