Weymouth Seniors Knit For Charity

WEYMOUTH (CBS) -- At a senior center south of Boston, several dozen women meet every Tuesday to laugh, talk, and knit.

"We're a noisy group," said one of the women. "Most of the time, there's a lot of laughing."

But there's a greater reason the members of the group, ranging in age from 60 to 90, get together each week. They donate their work to charities supporting homeless shelters, hospitals, babies in need, and veterans.

"Last year, we donated 600 hats, from babies to grandfathers," said Dorothy Archibald. "and 150 afghans. So, we do a lot."

In fact, they've just sent out 15 bags of knitted items to two homeless shelters for veterans. In all, ten different charities take their work.

"There's so many people in need out there," said one woman. "This is what we can do. You offer your talents, right?"

The group was created about 15 years ago, and its members say they hope it never stops meeting.
