Calls For Security Plans At Workplaces In Wake Of San Bernardino Shooting

CANTON (CBS) --  You name a police department, and it's likely they undergo active-shooter training. Many train in schools, sometimes in shopping malls. And most schools and malls have security plans in place, to deal with an active shooter.

But Wednesday's mass shooting in California took place in a state office building. In Massachusetts, many state buildings have security. But what about private companies?

"Private firms need to have a plan in place," says Canton Police Chief Ken Berkowitz, "what it's going to come down to is shelter-in-place and evacuation if necessary. Worst case scenarios involve personal decisions to stand and fight."

The Anti-Defamation League trains numerous groups in security measures. It's regional director says private companies need to train.

"Schools have fire drills, school bus drivers train students how to evacuate if there's an accident," says Robert Trestan. "So private companies need to train their employees as well."
