Police: Arlington Woman Faked Brain Tumor To Scam 84-Year-Old Man

ARLINGTON (AP) — Arlington police arrested a woman they allege scammed an 84-year-old widower out of more than $100,000, in part by falsely claiming she had a terminal brain tumor.

Anisa Llega pleaded not guilty to larceny and was ordered held on $100,000 bail Thursday during her arraignment in Cambridge District Court.

Police say the 24-year-old Llega met the man when she was a waitress at a restaurant he frequented, and started cleaning his house about three months ago.

Police say she asked for and received money for car payments, student loans and other bills, and the man also gave her $30,000 for surgery for a brain tumor she didn't have.

Llega's lawyer says the man willingly gave her gifts and made up the allegations after learning of her relationship with another man.
