Keller @ Large: Stan Rosenberg On Working With Gov. Baker

BOSTON (CBS) -- Massachusetts State Senate President Stan Rosenberg praised Gov. Charlie Baker's management skills in his first year in office, especially in his dealings with the MBTA and the Department of Children and Families.

Rosenberg sat down with WBZ political analyst Jon Keller to discuss his working relationship with the governor and what he's most proud to have accomplished this year in the Senate.

"I like working with Governor Baker," said Rosenberg. "He's a hands-on guy, he's strong on management and that's a lot of the problems that we've been dealing with in this first year of his governorship and my first year as Senate President."

When asked about Baker's predecessor, Rosenberg said, "I didn't have as much contact with Gov. [Deval] Patrick as I would have liked."

Rosenberg also talked about the significant MBTA reforms made this year, saying the Senate was initially reluctant to accept a separate control board put in place for the transportation organization, but that they eventually worked toward a version he was proud of.

"We ended up with a version that the Senate wrote during the budget process which ended up in law, we're happy with that because it blends MassDOT board members with a few people from outside," said Rosenberg. "And when those few people from the outside go away, all of the institutional knowledge of what was done on that control board will still sit on the MassDOT board, because the majority of the control board are actually MassDOT members."

Keller and Rosenberg also discussed the Senate battle over charter schools.
