Phantom Gourmet: Great 8 Chinese Food Restaurants

From wok stirred and spicy, to deep fried and delicious, Phantom has always been a fan of Chinese food. These are 8 great places to find flavors of the Far East right in our own backyard.

Seven Star Street Bistro
Roslindale

Kicking off the Great 8 is Seven Star Street Bistro in Roslindale. The Chinese and Taiwanese cuisine here is the real deal, with dishes like orange soy glazed baby back ribs and authentic hot and sour soup. But the must order menu item is the scallion pancakes, slathered in hoisin, and stuffed with roast beef and cilantro.

Dumpling Daughter
Weston

Dumpling Daughter in Weston offers noodles, buns, soups, and fresh, hot, delicious homemade dumplings. There are the traditional, homestyle Pork and Chive Dumplings from Beijing, and the Petit Chicken Dumplings with a slow cooked Sichuan sauce. Whether you want your dumplings steamed or pan-fried, it really just depends on your mood.

Bernard's
Chestnut Hill

Another Great 8 winner is Bernard's in Chestnut Hill. Owner Bernard Lueng has been serving authentic Asian fare to the region for over 25 years, with dishes like barbecue spare ribs, Beef Chow Fun, or the ultra-popular Pan Seared Angel Hair Noodles Chicken. To round out any good Chinese meal, fried rice is usually a good choice, especially when it's cooked just right.

Kowloon
Saugus

The legendary Kowloon on Route One Saugus is a megaplex for all things Asian. This popular throwback restaurant serves stiff tiki drinks, super fresh sushi and all your favorite Szechuan, Mandarin, and Americanized Pupu platter staples, from Crab Rangoon to spare ribs and chicken fingers. For a hometown favorite, try the signature Saugus wings, slathered in garlicky sauce that's sticky, sweet, and irresistible.

Quan's Kichen
Hanover

Quan's Kitchen in Hanover is a 12,000 square foot, 300 seat Asian restaurant that's changing the way people eat Chinese on the South Shore. There are crispy chicken wings, tender beef teriyaki, golden fried shrimp, plump egg rolls, and an ample stack of sticky-sweet boneless spare ribs. There's also a selection of sushi like the Lobster Tempura maki with avocado and spicy mayo. Quan also has a second sit-down location in North Attleboro, and take out spots in Mansfield and Weymouth.

All Seasons Table
Malden

Another Great 8 winner is All Seasons Table in Malden. In a sleek, sophisticated setting serving sushi, Mai Tais and Chinese food, the last thing you'd expect to find is a fantastic steak tip. Yet their melt-in-your-mouth beauties are a must order- marinated in garlic and pepper sauce.

Foumami
Boston

Foumami in Boston's Financial District is a fast casual sandwich shop specializing in shaobing, a traditional style flat bread of China. Here it's made fresh and stuffed with some serious flavors, like slow braised brisket. If you want other Asian inspired sandwiches, try the Korean style ribeye with scallions, cucumber and cilantro or Japanese Chicken Katsu.

Golden Temple
Brookline

Rounding out the Great 8 is the Golden Temple in Brookline. Their famous Pork Ribs have been on the menu since 1980 - thick cut and slathered in their famous barbecue sauce. The intoxicating Chicken Chardonnay is cooked with fresh broccoli and served over skinny egg noodles. To wash it all down, try one of their deliciously potent Mai Tais.
