Police: Milford Man Goes To Wrong House, Attempts To Break In

MILFORD (CBS) - Two Milford brothers got a rude awakening from a neighbor who had a few too many Thanksgiving drinks in what appears to be a case of alcohol-fueled mistaken identity.

Jonathan Guaman-Caguana, 28, is now facing several criminal charges for the midnight holiday disturbance.

Two brothers, R.J. and Michael Malnati, were jolted awake to the sound of broken glass at their front door. As they went to investigate, they encountered Guaman-Caguana on the porch.

According to a 911 call obtained by WBZ-TV, the brothers said the unwelcome visitor was yelling loudly in Spanish and appeared to be very intoxicated.

Police arrived and arrested Guaman-Caguana. Prosecutors said it appears the 28-year-old was trying to get into the wrong house.

Guaman-Caguana's residence is about five houses away on South High Street.

The brothers' father, Robert Malnati, got a phone call about the bizarre incident.

"When my son peeled back the curtain to see what was going on, the guy was standing there trying to get into the house," Malnati said. "He was a little wound up at the time. I know I would've been!"

In Milford District Court on Friday morning, a much more subdued Guaman-Caguana listened to the charges against him for destruction of property, disorderly conduct and disturbing the peace.

The arraignment was continued until Monday because Guaman-Caguana, who only speaks Spanish, needed an interpreter.

Outside the courthouse, he told WBZ-TV that he drank way too much, doesn't remember anything about the evening, and would like to apologize to his neighbors.

Erica Richards, who lives upstairs in the same house, is glad she was gone for some late-night Black Friday shopping.

"I would've been freaked out," she said. "That's scary. I don't know what I would've done to defend myself from a drunk guy breaking into my house."
