Robert Kraft Makes Surprise Donation To 'Christopher's Haven'

BOSTON (CBS) – Christopher's Haven executive director Joyce Duvall says she was just about to sit down to watch the Patriots on Monday Night Football when she got the surprise phone call of her life.

"The person on the phone says, 'Hello Joyce this is Bob Kraft. I'm sitting here with a friend of yours, Chris Evans.' And I hear Chris holler from the background 'Hey Joyce!'" Duvall recalled.

Christopher's Haven, located in Boston, offers apartments to families of children who are being treated for cancer at Massachusetts General Hospital.

Kraft, the owner of the Patriots, had invited Evans, the Hollywood movie star, up to his suite for the game and Christopher's Haven came up in the conversation.

"He said he heard so many good things about Christopher's Haven and the amazing things we do for children in Boston, said 'I asked Chris and he said you were a good person so I think I want to give you $100,000.' That's when my knees started to buckle,' Duvall said.

Evans, who has played 'Captain America' in several films, has been a supporter of Christopher's Haven many times in the bast, including during the Super Bowl when he bet fellow actor Chris Pratt that the Patriots would beat the Seahawks.

But Evans' recent surprise with Kraft's donation is a huge help to the non-profit.

"Are you kidding! That's almost half of our budget. This will enable us to start considering opening up other Christopher's Havens," Duvall said.

The money will go to support families like the Heywards of Ithaca, New York.

Ian's son Colin has brain cancer. He's had nine surgeries in his young eight years of life.

"For Mr. Kraft and Chris to do something like they've done, it means a lot to know there's somebody out there who's aware they've got an audience and can make a difference," Ian said.

Duvall was shocked and amazed by the call.

"This incredible donation is making for a very happy holiday season," she said.
