America's 50 Worst Traffic Bottlenecks Revealed - Including 3 In Boston Area

BOSTON (CBS) -- As drivers prepare to hit the road for the Thanksgiving holiday, there's a new report identifying the worst traffic spots in the nation – including three in the Boston area.

The ranking of "America's Worst 50 Traffic Bottlenecks" by the American Highway Users Alliance looks at how much time and gas motorists are wasting in gridlock.

Coming in at No. 15 is the 1.9 mile stretch of I-93 between the Mass Pike and Route 1. That bottleneck is estimated to cause 2.1 million hours of annual total delays, and a lost value of $58 million.

I-93 appears again on the list at no. 28, for the 1.2 mile span between Edge Hill Road and West Street. Traffic there costs drivers 1 million hours of delays a year, and lost value of $28 million.

The .3 mile portion of the Mass Pike from Dorchester Avenue to A Street rounds out the list at No. 50, with 200,000 hours lost and $7 million in lost value.

The worst bottleneck in the nation? It's in Chicago, according to the Alliance, and the next six slots are taken up by Los Angeles.
