Thanksgiving Travel Forecast: No Weather Complications

By Terry Eliasen, Meteorologist, WBZ-TV Exec. Weather Producer

BOSTON (CBS) -- Like it or not, the holiday travel season has officially arrived. The annual hustle and bustle to get to the grocery stores, the malls, and grandma's house is upon us.

Perhaps you may remember last year around this time--it was a mess! The Wednesday before Thanksgiving had heavy downpours with nearly an inch-and-a-half of rain in Boston. The rain changed over to snow Wednesday evening and dumped more than five inches in Worcester and about a half-an-inch in Boston.  Early morning travel was a real challenge, and anyone trying to get to a road race or high school football game had their work cut out for them. And then, adding insult to injury, a couple more inches of snow fell on Black Friday!

Well, I am happy to report that there will be no weather complications this year.

Not a drop of rain or flake of snow in the forecast through Friday! And, the same is true for all the major East Coast travel hubs, from Boston to New York City, DC to Atlanta--clear skies and quiet weather for all.

The only possible travel trouble spot this week would be in the Northwest. Early in the week, there will be some rain and snow showers in Washington state, Oregon, and northern California. By Wednesday and Thursday the rain and snow will move into places like Denver, Kansas City, and Chicago. But I should stress this is not a major storm by any means, no significant snow accumulation expected, certainly nothing like the foot-plus that just fell in parts of the Midwest.

Specifically what to expect for the Boston area:WEDNESDAY TRAVELMainly sunny, light wind, a bit on the chilly side, highs in the mid 40's.

THANKSGIVING DAY

A chilly start for road races and football games, 30's in the early morning. Temperatures quickly rise into the 40's by late morning and 50's by midday and afternoon! Lots of sunshine, very little wind.

BLACK FRIDAY

This is perhaps the pick of the week. It will be mainly sunny and downright warm. Temperatures will rise into the 60's, nearly 15 degrees above the average for the date.

The next shot at precipitation comes on Saturday, but it will be all rain, down the drain, no snow in the forecast this go around.
