State Department Issues Worldwide Travel Alert Ahead Of Holiday Season

BOSTON (CBS) - The State Department issued a worldwide travel alert late Monday that expires at the end of February.

Intelligence officials say current information suggests that terror groups including ISIS and Al-Qaida continue to plan attacks around the globe.

The State Department says such terror attacks could include both "conventional and non-conventional weapons," and says the public could be extra vigilant in public places and when using mass transportation.

Particular caution is recommended at holiday events.

Officials say security will be increased at the nation's 500 airports. TSA will scrutinize plane tickets, looking to see if travelers are traveling round trip or one way.

Airport screenings may be more thorough, and lines may therefore be longer.
