Rhode Island House Speaker Signs Subpoena For Curt Schilling
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — The speaker of the Rhode Island House has signed a subpoena requiring former Boston Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling to appear before a committee probing the state's $75 million deal with his failed video game company, 38 Studios.
But it is not enforceable outside the state of Rhode Island. Schilling lives in Massachusetts.
House Speaker Nicholas Mattiello signed the subpoena Monday, after the House Oversight Committee asked him to issue it.
The former Red Sox pitcher hasn't publicly answered questions about how the deal went wrong.
The committee previously invited Schilling to come voluntarily, but he declined. The subpoena compels Schilling to appear.
The subpoena is now expected to go to a sheriff, and when officials know Schilling is in the state, they will serve it.
