NY Judge Sends Suspect In Worcester Weapons Theft Back To Mass.
CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (AP) — A former Army reservist already facing child rape charges has been ordered to return to Massachusetts to face unrelated charges that he stole 16 weapons from an Army Reserve armory.
A spokeswoman for the U.S. attorney's office in New York says James Walker Morales waived identity and probable cause hearings during an appearance Friday in a Long Island courtroom. The name of his attorney was not immediately known.
Federal magistrate Steven Locke deemed Morales a flight risk and danger to the community. Authorities arrested him Wednesday on Long Island. They declined to discuss details of the arrest.
The FBI says the 34-year-old Morales stole six assault rifles and 10 handguns from the Lincoln Stoddard Army Reserve Center in Worcester last weekend.
Massachusetts authorities have not discussed the rape case.
