Lawmakers Investigating 38 Studios Vote To Request Subpoena For Curt Schilling

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — A Rhode Island House committee looking at the state's $75 million deal with failed video game company 38 Studios has voted to request a subpoena for company founder Curt Schilling.

The Oversight Committee voted Thursday to ask House Speaker Nicholas Mattiello to issue the subpoena, compelling Schilling to come before the committee.

A spokesman says Mattiello will approve it Friday.

The committee asked Schilling to voluntarily speak about the deal that left taxpayers on the hook. Schilling's lawyers declined, citing a lawsuit over the deal.

The former Red Sox pitcher hasn't publicly answered questions about how the deal went wrong.

The committee counsel says the subpoena likely won't be enforced in Schilling's home state of Massachusetts.

The chairwoman says that won't stop them from seeking answers.
