New Uber Safety Feature Lets Boston Riders Quickly Share ETA

BOSTON (CBS) -- A new safety tool announced by Uber on Monday will let Boston riders share more information about their trip with others.

The SafetyNet feature allows users to easily send details about their ride to five pre-selected contacts. Those people will receive the rider's location on a map, the estimated time of arrival, and the first name and vehicle information of the Uber driver.

"By keeping driver-partners, riders and their loved ones informed of where they are and who they are with, Uber takes the anonymity out of a trip," Uber says.

Boston is one of three cities that now has SafetyNet. Uber plans to roll out the feature nationwide in the next few weeks.
