Bill Belichick Offers No Update On Dion Lewis Injury

BOSTON (CBS) -- All of New England is hoping no news is good news on the Dion Lewis injury front.

The Patriots running back is expected to have an MRI on his left knee on Monday after he left Sunday's win over the Washington Redskins in the third quarter. His left leg appeared to have buckled when he planted the leg on a run, sending Lewis to the ground in pain. He walked off the field under his own power after a few minutes on the ground, but things did not look good as he was consoled by coaches and teammates as he made his way to the New England locker room.

Like their fans, the Patriots are playing the waiting game on Lewis' status.

"I don't have any update on Dion," head coach Bill Belichick told reporters on his Monday morning conference call.

At the moment, there's no telling just how serious the injury is. ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Sunday night that there was no swelling in the knee, but there is concern because Lewis' ACL is loose. The hope is Lewis only suffered an MCL sprain, which would likely only shelf the running back for 4-6 weeks.

Lewis has been a key contributor to New England's offensive attack this season, leading the team in touches and accumulating 622 yards (234 rushing, 388 receiving) and four total touchdowns.
