Expecting Military Moms Given Surprise Baby Shower In Boston
BOSTON (CBS) -- More than 40 expecting New England military moms were given a surprise baby shower hosted by the Boston Bruins and the March of Dimes in Boston on Sunday morning.
The goal of the event was to "empower military moms through education, resources and local community," according to a press statement.
"It's a really great initiative for everyone, and to see the community does care," expectant mom Mao Beckett told WBZ, adding that she's impressed by the nationwide support being offered to the military and their families.
Moms received a variety of gifts, including breast pumps and car seats, during the event at The Langham Hotel on Franklin Street. They had an opportunity to hear informative talks from national parenting experts, and visit with the Boston Bruins wives and girlfriends.
The March of Dimes' Mission Healthy Baby program provided mothers with the latest pregnancy and newborn health information, as well as ways to build up a support network via Hello Mamas, a social media platform that allows them to meet for playdates, according to the statement.
The program was started to address the needs of military members who may be stationed far from family and friends, or who may be at war while their partner is home, expecting a child, the statement added.
