Here's What Fenway Park Looks Like Without A Baseball Diamond

BOSTON (CBS) -- Football is coming to Fenway Park, and that means the oldest ballpark in America needs to undergo a major facelift.

Namely, the infield dirt needed to go, in order for the football field to take shape.

Boston College will take on Notre Dame on Nov. 21 at Fenway, and as a result, the grounds crew has been working hard to get the field ready to play.

Unlike in recent years when soccer matches have only required sod on parts of the infield, this time the entire infield is covered in grass.

It's an image that is certainly a bit striking.

Red Sox groundskeeper Dave Mellor posted a photo to his Instagram account on Tuesday night to show the progress.

Fenway Park has undergone some wild transformations in recent years, as it has hosted hockey games, soccer matches, concerts and even a sledding hill. The upcoming football game will be the first at Fenway since 1968. The park will host a hurling match later this month, and it will also host a snowboarding big air competition in February.

But first, there's football, and the @FenwayPark Twitter account posted several photos of the process that led to the finished product in Mellor's photo.

Mellor also posted some videos, for the real landscaping enthusiasts.

The Shamrock Series game between BC and Notre Dame will kick off at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 21.
