Twitter Replaces 'Favorite' Star With 'Like' Heart

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS) -- Say goodbye to "favorites" on Twitter.

The microblogging social network replaced the gold stars with red hearts on Tuesday. Now, users will be able to "like" tweets, a concept that's already well-known on Facebook.

"You might like a lot of things, but not everything can be your favorite," Twitter says. "The heart, in contrast, is a universal symbol that resonates across languages, cultures, and time zones."

Twitter says hearts have already been a big hit among users testing the new feature.

Hearts have proved popular on the streaming app Periscope, and they're also being rolled out on the Vine video app on Tuesday, Twitter said.
