Ryan Tannehill Had A Really Rough Night On Twitter During Patriots - Dolphins

By Matt Dolloff (@mattdolloff)

BOSTON (CBS) -- It's becoming a weekly occurrence with Patriots opponents. Someone on the other team screws up in horribly embarrassing fashion, often swinging momentum further in the Patriots' favor, which is almost unfair considering the way the team is playing right now. It's hard enough to beat the Patriots mistake-free, let alone while handing them the ball with inexplicable brain-farts.

Thursday night's chief victim was Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill, who pulled a Peyton Manning in Super Bowl XLVIII when he apparently sent an inadvertent signal to the center to snap the ball while backed up to his own end zone. Tannehill was forced to take a safety as he recovered the ball through the back of the end zone, birthing yet another meme-able miscue for the other team against the Pats.

Needless to say, Tannehill had a rough game all night, throwing two interceptions and no touchdowns and making no more than two or three throws that were even mildly impressive. It was a far cry from the Tannehill that lit up the Texans and Titans in the Dolphins' previous two games, and Twitter took notice.

You can always rely on the tweeps to relentlessly jab those who have embarrassed themselves on national TV, and Thursday night nobody put a bigger spotlight on himself than Tannehill. Here's a rundown of how Twitter roasted the Dolphins QB Thursday night...

"Tannehill Face" was an instant classic.

Interim Dolphins head coach Dan Campbell has been compared to the new South Park character "PC Principal" and it's perfect. Wouldn't want to deal with that guy right now if you were Tannehill.

CBS color commentator Phil Simms didn't help matters when he called Tannehill a "franchise quarterback" during the broadcast.

And of course, there were the obligatory angry fantasy GMs.

And there was the time Tannehill resorted to literally becoming a dolphin.

Not Tannehill's finest hour as an NFL quarterback. You can't play like he did and expect to have a chance against the Patriots in Foxboro, especially with how unstoppable Tom Brady and the offense looks right now. And if you make the kind of ghastly mistakes Tannehill did, you can expect a good-old-fashioned roasting from the snarks on Twitter.

Unfathomable stupidity is becoming a weekly tradition for the Patriots opponent, and it's amazing. Tannehill is just the latest victim.
