Former HVAC Worker Accused Of Stealing From Cohasset Teachers

COHASSET (CBS) - Cash was stolen from teachers on the South Shore and police believe the man responsible had a special connection to the schools.

The suspect is a man who serviced the school's air conditioning system who lost his job. The school did not notice and workers kept letting him in.

Anthony Binsfield of Plymouth was arrested Thursday afternoon and brought to Cohasset police headquarters. He is suspected of victimizing staffers at two Cohasset schools, Osgood and Deer Hill, and allegedly stealing property from them.

Police say Binsfield got into the schools posing as an HVAC contractor at the schools he once legitimately worked in.

"He was a former employee of an HVAC company that the school district uses as a vendor. He was fired in September by that company and he held onto one of his uniforms, it appears, and he's entering the school using a ruse that he's here to fix the HVAC system," says Cohasset Police Chief William Quigley.

The police say there was never a time when kids were in any danger. Cohasset School Superintent Barbara Cataldo says Binsfield was a familiar face to staffers, but now they are reviewing their security procedures.

"It brought to our attention that we need to review our protocols regularly and maybe even increase them and that is exactly what we've already done," Cataldo says. "We have reviewed the protocols we've notified all of our front office staff as well as our teachers of anybody in the building to make sure we always know who's there if we're not sure to check in and we'll increase our protocols if needed."

Binsfield is currently being held at Cohasset Police Headquarters and is due in court on Friday.
