Coin Store Employees Tasered During Robbery In Stoneham

STONEHAM (CBS) -- Two employees of a coin store were attacked with a stun gun during a robbery Tuesday morning.

Police say two Hispanic men in their 20's entered the coin store at Redstone Shopping Center shortly after 9:30a.m. to sell some jewelry.

"During the transaction, apparently one of the suspects pulled out a Taser and tased one of the employees," Stoneham police chief Jim McIntyre said. "A second employee working in the store heard the noise, came over to assist, and he was tased as well."

Police said the other suspect brandished a knife. Both employees were zip-tied, and the thieves made off with an undisclosed number of coins, McIntyre said.

One of the employees was able to break out of the zip tie and hit the panic button to alert police.

There were no surveillance cameras in the store. Police believe the store was targeted and the incident does not pose a risk to the community.

Police told WBZ-TV the shop was also robbed back in March.

One of the suspects was described as 5'8 tall, medium build, wearing a hooded gray sweatshirt.
