Woman Charged With Killing Uncle In Hyde Park To Have Mental Health Evaluation

WEST ROXBURY (CBS/AP) — A woman accused of fatally shooting her uncle over the weekend was ordered to have a mental health evaluation Monday.

Yvonne Lewis, 36, faces murder and other charges in the shooting of 49-year-old Clive Francis in Hyde Park Saturday afternoon.

She came to her arraignment in West Roxbury District Court Monday in a hospital gown and refused to enter the courtroom.

Lewis was eventually dragged in and held up by a court officer for the proceeding.

Francis was called to Lewis' Wood Avenue home by her parents because she was allegedly out of control and they thought he could calm her down.

The prosecutor said Lewis fired three rounds at her uncle, shooting him in the head once outside her home on Wood Avenue Saturday. She then left in his SUV.  She was found about five hours later in Peabody.

Meanwhile, Francis' 11-year-old son went upstairs and found his father dead, prosecutors say.

The judge ordered her held for a 20-day psychiatric evaluation before she can be arraigned.

Nearly three dozen of Francis' relatives were in court; many of whom were wearing red shirts with the logo of the trucking company he owned. They told reporters they have no idea what the motive was for the shooting.

His family said the pair was very close, but the relationship had become strained as Lewis struggled with personal issues.

Clive's wife, Tracy Francis, told WBZ-TV's Lauren Leamanczyk "My heart is broken, and all I can do is look at her and think about the times we were around her and wonder 'What inspired her to snap?'"

Francis' family left court determined not to let the tragedy tear their family apart.

"I have to forgive her," said Francis' wife. "This is what God would want me to do."

She is scheduled to appear in court again on Nov. 16.
