Keller @ Large: Is The MBTA Ready For Winter?

BOSTON (CBS) -- Like it or not, winter is coming.

And after record-breaking snow earlier this year proved disastrous for public transportation, new management at the MBTA has vowed to be better prepared for what this winter brings.

"We're doing physical construction on both the Red and Orange lines to improve the power delivery and de-icing capacity," MBTA General Manager Frank DePaola told WBZ political analyst Jon Keller. "We've also purchased a significant amount of maintenance equipment that will help us clear the rights of way of snow and ice during and prior to storms."

DePaola added that the MBTA is working on new procedures for better service and communication with riders during storms.

Keller also talked with DePaola about the Green Line extension, and when passengers might see fare hikes.
