Mayor Walsh Declares Oct. 20th 'Travis Roy Day' In Boston
BOSTON (CBS) -- Boston Mayor Marty Walsh has declared Oct. 20th "Travis Roy Day" to honor the former Boston University hockey player who was paralyzed during a game 20 years ago.

Just 11 seconds into his freshman debut with the team at Walter Brown Arena on Oct. 20, 1995, Roy suffered a hit that left him paralyzed from the neck down. While the accident changed his life forever, Roy decided to focus his efforts on helping others with spinal cord injuries as an activist and spokesman.
The city is recognizing him for the work he has done through the Travis Roy Foundation, which raises awareness and funds to support those living with spinal cord injuries.
The foundation has planned a fundraising event called "A Night For Travis Roy" at Agganis Arena on Tuesday night. The Boston Bruins will also present him with a special jersey as part of the one-day contract he signed last week with the team.
