Trooper Injured After Cruiser Hit By Tractor-Trailer On Mass Pike
NEWTON (CBS) – A State Police trooper was injured Friday night when a tractor-trailer smashed into his cruiser on the Mass Pike.
Police said the trooper was in his vehicle working construction detail just after the Exit 17 off ramp in Newton when his cruiser, a Ford Explorer SUV, was rear-ended.
The trooper, a 44-year-old assigned to Troop E, was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital with what police called "potentially serious" injuries. He was released on Saturday morning.
Both the cruiser and the tractor-trailer were heavily damaged in the crash.
Al Hughes, 32, of New Britain, Conn., was cited for failure to move over for an emergency vehicle/road crew and failure to take care in stopping.
