Donald Trump Comes To Tyngsboro For Campaign Event

TYNGSBORO (CBS) – Donald Trump is bringing his presidential campaign back to Massachusetts.

WBZ NewsRadio 1030's Joe Mathieu caught up with Trump in advance of a Friday night campaign appearance at Tyngsboro Elementary School.

The leading Republican presidential candidate said he plans to make a push to win Massachusetts, something previous candidate Mitt Romney did not do in his home state.

"We have a lot of things going, we have a great momentum going. People are tired of what's happening with the country and they're tired of what's going on," Trump told WBZ NewsRadio 1030. "I have a theme. It's called 'Make America Great Again.' And I don't know if (Romney) tried or not, but I'll be trying very hard. I love Massachusetts."

Friday will mark Trump's first Massachusetts campaign event since he was at Ernie Boch Jr.'s Norwood home in August.

Trump said he is confident that he will take the vote in New Hampshire, where he is currently leading polls.

"I'll be back soon and I've been all over New Hampshire. We've done so well up there. I have so many great friends up in New Hampshire," Trump said. "We have a tremendous team up there right now. Oh yeah. I think we're going to win it."

When asked about an upcoming vote in Massachusetts that could legalize recreational marijuana, Trump said that if he becomes president he would not interfere with the decision.

Trump added that he believes recreational marijuana use is something that should be decided at a local level, not by the federal government.

Over the summer Trump and Boston Mayor Marty Walsh exchanged barbs several times after Trump criticized the failed Boston 2024 bid.

Walsh later responded by issuing an Ice Bucket Challenge to Trump, who declined and called the mayor a "clown."

In his interview this week with WBZ NewsRadio, Trump called Walsh uninformed.

"Marty Walsh said some nasty things about me having to do with illegal immigration and I think he probably wishes he took them back," Trump said. "I'm not a fan of his because I don't like people when they don't know what they're talking about to be speaking like that."

Doors open for Trump's Friday Tyngsboro Elementary School event at 5 p.m.

The Trump campaign says free tickets were given out for the event, but they are all gone.
