Patriots Lose LT Nate Solder For Rest Of Season With Torn Biceps

BOSTON (CBS) -- The Patriots' offensive line just took another hit.

Left tackle Nate Solder will miss the rest of the season with a torn right biceps, the Boston Globe's Jim McBride first reported. The Patriots confirmed that Solder had been placed on injured reserve, but did not disclose the exact injury.

Solder suffered the injury in the first half of New England's 30-6 win over the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday. He was originally deemed "questionable" to return, but was declared out in the second half.

In that game Tom Brady was sacked five times in the first half, the most in any half of the quarterback's career.

Solder will undergo surgery soon, according to McBride. The 27-year-old was in his fifth year protecting Tom Brady's blind side for New England. He had started 64 games for the Patriots since being drafted 17th overall out of Colorado in 2011, including all four games this season.

The veteran tackle showed with a tweet Wednesday afternoon that his bicep may have taken a hit, but his sense of humor is still in tact.

Without Solder out, Sebastian Vollmer will likely move to left tackle with Marcus Cannon getting the start at right tackle. The loss puts further strain on New England's offensive line depth, which is already without starting center Bryan Stork until after Week 8 (at the earliest).
