Scituate Boy Talks About Role In Black Mass, Time With Johnny Depp

SCITUATE (CBS) - Luke Ryan of Scituate rough-housed with his four brothers Friday night, so is the life of an 8-year old movie star.

He plays Whitey Bulger's son opposite Johnny Depp as Bulger in the movie "Black Mass."

"Just the same kid in the same house with the same friends," said Luke's mom Leslie Ryan.

In real life, Luke is very quiet. He was impressed on how "normal" the stars were, like when he asked Depp if he could bring his brother on the set. Luke said Depp told him, "This is your movie as much as it's my movie."

He also shared how he was scripted to eat eggs for a breakfast scene, but he hates eggs. Depp had it changed to bacon. Luke said he ate bacon all day.

Luke spent three days filming. The breakfast scene and his dying hospital scene were the big moments. He recounted how he had to wear lots of make-up and they shot scenes multiple times.

Luke and his brothers don't take acting lessons, but they like to act and usually book spots in commercials and independent films.

"We started kind of like a college fund and we had no idea it would turn into this," said Leslie.

Leslie and Rob Ryan took their son to see the movie, though they covered his eyes during parts of it. They said what their sons do with acting is up to each boy. Luke has big plans for the future. He has an audition on Saturday and a hockey game on Sunday.
