Lynn Teacher Hoping To Get On Primary Ballot For President

LYNN (CBS) -- Taking a trip to Hawaii or running a marathon might be on some people's bucket lists, but for Lynn teacher Jeremy McKeen he's always wanted to do one thing in particular: run for President of the United States.

McKeen, 36, an English teacher at Lynn Vocational Technical Institute, is trying to accomplish what others have failed to do: get his name on the ballot in Massachusetts for the March primary.

"Jeremy's a great person and an inspiring teacher to his students at Lynn Tech," said Bob Buontempo, principal at the school. "It's been a lifelong dream of his to be placed on the ballot. Could be a beginning - everybody has to start somewhere."

McKeen, a Democrat from Gloucester, says he has been encouraged to see his colleagues, new supporters, and former and current students backing his cause.

"I'm honored to be running and want to keep things simple. 'The Dream' is to get people talking about their dreams for the future and America, and how to make things better," he said. "I get the pleasure of working with young people every day who are hungry to dream and be alive, so I'm infused with a lot of energy after today and am excited to see what happens after this."

He has launched his presidential campaign Facebook page, and as of Friday afternoon, more than 300 people had liked it.

"This has been a dream of his since the 1990s, and as he gets enough likes on this page he'll pursue different facets of running for President, from campaign support to voter signatures," reads his page.

The teacher has submitted Federal Election Commission documents and is currently seeking the 2,500 certified voters' signatures required to have his name appear on the March 1 presidential primary ballot, according to The Daily Item.

The Item reports McKeen has three signatures so far.
