Tom Brady Thanks Fan Who Returned 400th TD Ball

BOSTON (CBS) - He's the man who returned a very important football. The one that scored Tom Brady his 400th touchdown pass. And the Patriots quarterback had a great way to say 'thank you.'

The big play happened on Sunday. Brady to Amendola, complete, making Brady the fourth player to throw 400 touchdown passes. Amendola started to spike the ball, but then he handed it to a fan in the stands.

"Amendola had caught the ball right in front of me. All of a sudden the ball's in my hand and I'm like, does he realize he just handed me the 400th ball?" wonders David Bowen of Plymouth.

A season ticket holder for 30 years, Bowen had that historic ball in his grip, but when a ball boy asked him if he would give it back, Bowen was happy to oblige.

"I knew where it belonged. Even if Brady might have downplayed the significance of the milestone, I'm sure for him and his family in the future, that might mean a lot to somebody," says Bowen.

And Brady was terrific about it, giving David a chance to hang out with him and signing a couple of other footballs. "You can't put a price on it. To meet an icon and to be able to congratulate him for all he's done for us over the last 15 years or so, really, he's made our winters a lot shorter," Bowen says.

And if it happened to him again? "I wouldn't have any hesitation. They could hand me the 500th and I'd give it right back to them again," he says.

The 400th ball is now on display at Gillette Stadium for all fans to enjoy.
