Zolak & Bertrand: Tom Brady, Patriots Out To Embarrass Rest Of NFL

BOSTON (CBS) -- In professional sports, is there such a thing as winning too much?

The Patriots appear to be in the same mode as 2007, when they played the disrespect card like never before en route to the first-ever 16-0 regular season. Tom Brady (and the rest of the franchise) has been the subject of widespread cheating allegations and intense scrutiny since winning Super Bowl XLIX and dragging through the DeflateGate saga.

Echoing the Patriots' 2007 rampage, the 2015 season has kicked off with Brady putting up numbers rivaling the best starts of his career, amassing 1,112 passing yards with 9 touchdowns and no interceptions.

Zolak & Bertrand have dubbed this season's run as the "Scorched Earth Campaign", and started off Tuesday's show looking at the team's blazing 3-0 start and their apparent intentions to embarrass every team in their path. Marc Bertrand rejected arguments from media and fans that the Patriots disrespect their opponents by running up the score and refusing to take Tom Brady out of games, even late in blowouts like their 51-17 Week 3 trouncing of the Jacksonville Jaguars.

You don't like them scoring? Step up and stop them. This is professional football. And as a Patriots fan, Bertrand hopes they keep running it up and keep Brady in as much as possible. Forget about keeping Brady on a "pitch count".

"I want Brady in the games. I want him to play a full 60 minutes," he said. "I want him to throw 45, 50 times a game if that's what they want. I want them to go all out. When we say 'scorched earth', we mean it! Out for blood, out to embarrass everybody. That's not a sign of disrespect. You don't like it? Stop it. Play some defense, how does that sound?

"I want [the Patriots] to smash records. I want them to win as many games as possible. You know why? Because that's why you're a fan! That's why you watch these games! That's what you want to see!"

Scott Zolak agrees, and says besides the Green Bay Packers there is no other team that is close to the Patriots' level right now.

"This is personal now, between [the Patriots] and the rest of this league - that looks like they aren't ready to compete with them," he said. "There's a team last night that played in Green Bay that looks pretty damn good, and they're fun to watch. But why are they so damn good? Good coach, great quarterback. They're going to be there in the end. Everybody else, get in line. It's an ass-kicking waiting to happen this year."
