Mike Hazen Named Red Sox General Manager, Senior VP
BOSTON (CBS) -- Dave Dombrowski has reportedly chosen his GM, and he's found an internal candidate to fill the role.
The Red Sox will name Mike Hazen as their next GM/senior vice president.
CBS Sports' Jon Heyman broke the news shortly before the Red Sox made the announcement on Twitter.
Hazen most recently served as senior vice president/assistant general manager under since-fired GM Ben Cherington. From 2012-14, Hazen worked as the team's vice president/assistant GM.
Hazen joined the Red Sox organization in 2006, coming from the Cleveland Indians, where he was the assistant director of pro scouting.
The native of Abington, Mass., has helped grow the Red Sox' farm system, the same system that has produced Xander Bogaerts, Mookie Betts and Jackie Bradley Jr., among others, in recent years.
Dombrowski was hired as president of baseball operations in mid-August, a move that prompted the departure of Cherington. Earlier that month, Larry Lucchino announced that he'd be stepping down as the team's CEO/president.
With those moves, change was bound to take place in the offices at 4 Yawkey Way. But the hiring of Hazen ensures some continuity in the system.
