Medway Police Find Illegal Explosives, Weapons In Home

MEDWAY (CBS) – A Medway man was arrested in Rhode Island after police found a large number of guns and homemade fireworks in his Massachusetts home.

Officers arrived at Alexander Lesperance's Medway home Monday for a complaint about a restraining order violation.

While at the 47-year-old's house, which is a short distance from a Medway school, police found the large collection of weapons.

The Massachusetts State Police bomb squad was called in to deal with the illegal fireworks. It took about 2.5 hours for bomb squad members to safely handle the explosives.

Lesperance was not home at the time, but was arrested Tuesday in Rhode Island.

He faces charges of violating a restraining order, possession of a firearm without a license, possession of a large capacity firearm, possession of large capacity feeding devices, illegal possession of ammunition, possession of an assault rifle, improper storage of a firearm and possession of a destructive or incendiary device.

Police say there was never any threat to students at the nearby school.
