Paula Ebben's Papal Visit Blog: Never Know Who You'll See

WASHINGTON (CBS) - Pope Francis arrives Tuesday at 4 p.m. at Joint Base Andrews where he'll be greeted by the President and First Lady. Buckle up - the pope loves surprises!

We began our coverage of the pope's U.S. trip Monday here in Washington and there were some interesting moments from our first day.

WBZ-TV producer Ken Tucci and photographer Jim O'Halloran and I hit the ground running, interviewing people about security and road closures this week.

They're preparing as though a blizzard is about to hit the nation's capital.

By the way, in case you were wondering, the Secret Service doesn't care for tripods on sidewalks.

And you never know who you'll run in to down here.

We saw Thomas Friedman of the New York Times heading in to C-Span.

And, while we were interviewing three students from Holy Cross about their trip to the White House on Wednesday, a man who'd like to live there breezed by.

The students were shocked to see Dr. Ben Carson, accompanied by only one aide, stroll through our interview area.

They looked at me and said "I can't believe that just happened!"
