Beyond The Forecast: Summer Weather Moving Out, Fall Conditions Roll In

BOSTON (CBS) – It is our last official weekend of summer.  The last hurrah for cookouts (unless you grill out year round like my family) and maybe the last beach day for the year too.

Watch: Latest Weather Forecast

Clouds linger on the Cape and islands today, but farther north we expect more sunshine.  Highs in the mid 70s along the south coast (thanks to an onshore wind) and lower 80s inland.

Our pattern shifts tonight as a cold front moves through.  It won't bring us much rain, but it will bring us cooler and drier air.

Highs on Sunday will only be in the lower 70s! With a brisk northwest wind all afternoon it will feel much like autumn.

There is a brief chance for an isolated shower overnight, but other than that the clouds diminish from northwest to southeast Sunday afternoon.  Becoming all clear by evening.

Give the air conditioner a break! High temps will be in the lower 70s or upper 60s for at least a few days, with overnight lows in the 40s or 50s.

Our slight warm up begins on Wednesday which is our first day of fall.  The autumnal equinox occurs at 4:22 a.m., the moment the sun crosses the celestial equator.

In the extended forecast, we near 80 on Thursday, then fall to the upper 60s next Saturday.

Have a great weekend!
