Police Search For Evidence After Marshfield Murder
MARSHFIELD (CBS) - State Police investigators were back at the scene of a horrific crime, searching yards in a Marshfield neighborhood again for evidence that may have been tossed by suspects after the murder of 43-year-old Robert McKenna.
"Police have said there is nothing to worry about, but we don't know anything and people are still on edge," said Tish Vivado manager of the Marshfield Hills General Store.
Residents have been coming to the local store to talk about their unease as the sight of police investigators reminds them a killer or killers is still at large. Investigators say McKenna was targeted at the home on Damon's Pond Road where he lived alone with his two dogs. Investigators say it was an attempted robbery.
Neighbor Paul Turner heard a car leaving early Wednesday morning. "I heard a guy that left say 'come on boy', but I thought it was Rob talking to one of his dogs who got out. In hindsight you wish you got on the phone or something."
Neighbors say McKenna returned to the South Shore after spending time in Africa and was apparently involved in the diamond trade. Investigators will only say the suspects were looking for something inside the home.
"Just a friendly, outgoing guy. He had a colorful past, but a good spirit and a good person," said Turner.
That's how neighbors want McKenna to be remembered. For now a barricade remains on the street and investigators wait for autopsy results to determine how he died of severe blood loss.
