Police Warn Women After Attacks In Harvard Square

CAMBRIDGE (CBS) - Cambridge Police are reminding women in and around the Harvard Square area to be careful when they're walking at night.

A string of indecent assaults that stretches back to the middle of the summer seems to have gotten more intense now that students have returned for the fall semester.

Investigators say many of these attacks are happening around 7:00 or 8:00 at night in and around the very busy Harvard Square area.

"It's too bad. It's not the old Harvard Square," one Cambridge woman told WBZ when she heard about the attacks.

The most recent assault happened Tuesday night at around 8:30 p.m. near the intersection of Garden Street meets Massachusetts Avenue. The victim told police that the suspect bumped into her with his shoulder and then grabbed her behind.

It's a scenario police say is similar to other incidents near Garden Street, on Mass Ave., and in the Brattle Square area since the end of August.

The suspect is described only as a black man with a stock build, around 5 feet, 9 inches tall.

Authorities have arrested other men for similar assaults, but the suspect, or suspects, behind the most recent incidents remain at large. Anyone with information is asked to call Cambridge Police.
