Easton Man Sets World Record For Longest Pumpkin Float

BOSTON (CBS) --  An Easton man made history Saturday when he broke the world record for the longest journey in a pumpkin boat.

Todd Sandstrum would have needed to float in the pumpkin for more than 3 miles to break the current record.

Sandstrum carved out the 817-pound gourd, lowered it into the Taunton River by a crane, and floated at least 3.5 miles.

The pumpkin made an appearance at the Bass Pro Shops in Foxboro Sunday.

Sandstrum also had to ride the pumpkin boat without modifying it in any way and without a motor.

The pumpkin was grown and donated by a man in Plymouth.
