Deflategate Ruling Appeal Unlikely To Go Far, Says WBZ-TV Legal Analyst

BOSTON (CBS) -- The NFL is unlikely to successfully appeal the "sound" and "reasonable" ruling handed down by U.S. District Judge Richard Berman Thursday, WBZ -TV legal analyst Harry Manion said.

"This is a very bad day for the NFL and its counsel," said Manion. "They spent close to $15 million on this charade."

Judge Berman issued a ruling overturning the league's decision to suspend Tom Brady for four games. The NFL said it will appeal.

Manion said the Wells Report and the league's subsequent punishment pushed legal boundaries.

"The NFL violated due process... barring Tom Brady and his team of lawyers from cross-examining the architect of the Wells Report," he said.

"If I'm sitting in the NFL's office right now and Goodell looks at outside counsel and inside counsel and says 'ok, what do we do next?' The options are limited," he said.

An appeal could take months.
