Suspect In Lowell Sexual Assault Wants Crime Tip Reward, Authorities Say

LOWELL, Mass. (AP) — A Massachusetts man authorities say tried to collect a reward for information about a sexual assault he actually committed returns to court.

Kevin Suarez is scheduled to appear in court Monday for a dangerousness hearing.

Police say an 18-year-old woman was walking in Lowell early in the morning on Aug. 23 when she was grabbed from behind and dragged into an alley.

A good Samaritan heard the victim's cries for help and chased off the attacker.

Police say Suarez walked into the station the next day to give a tip about the assault and receive a reward. He was arrested after police noticed his resemblance to the attacker in surveillance video.

He pleaded not guilty assault with intent to rape.

His lawyer said there are identification issues with the case.
